في البلاد توجد عشرات المتاحف التراثيه والعلميه والفنيه والمموله من قبل مختلف مؤسسات الدوله، مثل متحف تل ابيب للفنون الحديثه ومتحف ارض اسرائيل والمتحف القومي في القدس ومتاحف في حيفا، التي ترعاها بلديه حيفا، ينعدم فيها التمثيل العربي وابداع الفنان الفلسطيني كذلك من حيث المحفوظات والمقتنيات والمشاركه في تمثيل اتجاهات مختلفه في الفن الحديث. يضاف الى ذلك انعدام المنح السنويه والتفرغ للابداع والمقدمه من وزاره التعليم والثقافه ومؤسسات تربويه اخرى. ان عدم توفير الامكانيه في المساعده والاقتناء والترويج الاعلامي من شآنه ان يحبط الدافع العام في السسعي لاقامه تمثيل ابداعي لجمهور واسع يمثل نحو 20% من سكان الدوله.

كذلك فان تجاهل اقامه المتحف وصالات العرض في المدن العربيه – وهو حاجه هامه من احتياجات المجتمع فآن ذلك يعد مطلبا ملحا من مطالب المساواه والعداله الاجتماعيه لسكان الدوله العرب.

Background Note about the Visual Arts Workshop & Gallery

Dear Madam/Dear Sir,

Please allow me to introduce to you the "Visual Arts Workshop" I have created, and the motivations which drove to its creation; as well as to draw your kind attention to the importance of such an endeavor, which will only succeed given the active participation of the wider art-loving public.

When I submitted my MA graduation project titled "the place of the monument in the urban space" to the fine arts academy of Dresden (East Germany) at end of 1970, I was asked by the panel of professors to explain the reasons for this choice, and what could be done to implement the strong will to provide artistic consciousness to my target audience….the Palestinian Arab population in Israel…

My reply concentrated on the aspect of the essence of art, and its ability to create the kind of consciousness that would lead to a deep change in the passive attitude of the targeted audience, which is lacking motivation and tools in this area.

I claimed before the panel of examiners that the state of affairs where there is a marked lack of galleries and museums in the Arab towns and villages was intolerable. I pledged, therefore, that following my return home, I will exert all efforts to establish the open museum in the spaces of the walls of schools, sport halls, and in the streets and squares of the Arab towns and villages. This ugly situation was partly caused and further aggravated by the attitudes of the different governmental organs, starting with the ministry of education and culture, down to local governments and the various pressure groups. Moreover, there was a lack of public interest in stressing this issue in the public agenda as an important issue that must be raised before the organs of the state, such as the need to establish schools and community centers, art galleries and museums.

It is true that some progress has been made ever since those years when I began my career by creating artistic projects, monuments and environmental sculpturing in many locations, such as Kfar Yasif, Shefaram, Sachneen, Nazareth, Haifa, Kofor Manda, Kofor Kana, Zarazir, Ebellin, Um al Fahem, Reina, etc..

In addition, a number of quality cultural centers have emerged. However, the long-desired museum still doesn't exist. Therefore, one must appreciate and encourage the various steps and initiatives to establish galleries and exhibition halls in the framework of community centers.    

I believe that the decision to establish the visual arts workshop and gallery is another important step along that road. One of the functions of the exhibition hall is the creation of a direct relation between visual arts and the wider audience, therefore the gallery will be hosting and exhibiting my works and the works of other artists.

The workshop, on the other hand, will serve primarily the needs of the admirers of art,  and will supply a proficient response to the development of young talents. It will hold courses for ceramics, color and illustration, as well as environmental sculpturing – for both children and advanced students of art. The workshop thus aims at introducing school children and high school students to various artists and art segments, and to enable them at the same time to get acquainted with the various techniques and materials.

In addition to the above, the gallery and workshop aim also at serving the wider art-loving audience: The location of the gallery and workshop in the center of Haifa will enable a fruitful and interesting dialogue with both the Arab and Jewish public, and will enable this endeavor to contribute to strengthening the mutual understanding and harmonious coexistence in this beautiful city.

Moreover, the workshop also aspires to become a center for cultural meetings, aimed at strengthening the mutual understanding and tolerance among peoples. For this end, the workshop will organize from time to time the "international visual arts camp for peace and tolerance", in the framework of which Arab, Jewish and international artists will be encouraged to come together and implement joint art projects.

The success of this multi-purpose endeavor depends to a large extent on the active participation of the targeted audience, as well as on the material contributions of the various institutions, governmental and non-governmental alike.

באביב 2005 הוקמה  עמותת "ערבל, ביזמת האמן עבד עבדי ועמיתים אוהדי אומנות וספרות מחיפה והצפון למען היעדים הבאים:

-למען גיבוש הכוחות האינטלקטואליים הקיימים, לקידום נושא האמנות היצירתית ובפרט האמנות החזותית בקרב האוכלוסייה הערבית-      ישראלית  ככלי לדיאלוג בין העמים,

-ולמען העמקת נושא היצירה והרוח בכלל, והאמנות החזותית בפרט, בתחומי החינוך והתרבות, והצבתם כחלק מנכסיה התרבותיים        בדרכה של חברה המבקשת לקבל את פני העתיד כחברה מתקדמת ונאורה.

העמותה פועלת בתחומים רבים להשגת יעדיה:

 - העמותה פועלת לשינוי תודעתם ותפיסתם של רבים במגזר הערבי בנושא חשיבות טיפוח האמנות, והאמנות החזותית בפרט,   ולהעמקת     תפיסת תחום האמנות החזותית כאמצעי משמעותי לסיפוק צרכיה הרוחניים של החברה כשאר האומנויות כגון שירה  ותיאטרון,     וכמענה     חומרי להבטחת עתידם של פרטים וקבוצות כבשאר התחומים והאומנויות.

 -העמותה קוראת לרשויות המדינה ובפרט למשרד החינוך והתרבות, שמאז קום המדינה לא השכילו לפתח ולהעשיר דיה את מערכת      החינוך הערבי בתחומי הרוח והיצירה ובמקצועות המוסיקה והציור כפי שהעשירו את מערכת החינוך העברית לאורך השנים, כי יפעלו ליצירת אקלים חינוכי המעודד פיתוח כישרונות אמנותיים, ופיתוח חשיבה יצירתית ורחבת אופקים בקרב תלמידיה .

- העמותה קוראת להכרת רשויות השלטון בחשיבות הקמת מוזיאונים במרכזי האוכלוסייה הערבית, הענקת מלגות ופרסים שנתיים לנושא האומנות החזותית, ועידוד בתי ספר המתמחים בתחומים אלה שיהוו אפיק ראוי לכישרונות הנוער במגזר הערבי בדומה למוסדות הקיימים במערכת החינוך העברית. בהעדר אמצעים בסיסיים כגון אלה, ונגישים בכל קהילה, נידונה החברה לדיכוי השאיפות והכישורים הרבים הקיימים  בקרב האוכלוסייה הערבית בתחום האמנות.

הקבוצה המייסדת לעמותת "ערבל", רואה את קומן של קבוצות ועמותות שעניינן קידום נושא האומנות החזותית, כיעדים חיוביים ונעלים, שמגשימים את הרצון לחברה חסינה ומתקדמת.
